Jewellery Care
Sterling Silver is an alloy, and contains a small amount of copper which can cause tarnishing over time and if not stored correctly. It can also leave marks on some peoples skin if not cleaned regularly. This is very common and these marks will wash off!
Here are a few tips to help you look after your jewellery and keep it in beautiful condition.
Keeping that shine...
Jewellery can become discoloured over time, a process known as tarnishing.
The discolouration occurs when metal comes into contact with certain products and chemical moisture (such as soaps, cleaning fluids, hand sanitiser) but it can be easily managed.
For silver and copper, a quick buff with a silver polishing cloth is usually sufficient to keep your jewellery sparkling and looking new, but there are a few steps you can take to help minimise and slow the tarnishing process.
General care...
There are a few simple things that you can do to help keep your jewellery clean and in good condition...
- Put your jewellery on last as part of your morning routine.
- To maintain the condition of your jewellery, always remove before showering, exercising, swimming, sleeping or manual work.
- Keep your jewellery away from chemical moisture such as soaps, perfumes, creams and cleaning substances.
- Clean silver and copper regularly with a silver polishing cloth (available from most supermarkets). Alternatively a little soak in warm soapy water and a buff with a soft cloth will often do the trick.
- Store your jewellery separately and in a safe place, avoiding any hot or damp conditions and any bumps or unintended pressure being placed upon it.
- Always remove your studs by pushing them out from the back of the ear rather than pulling at the front. This is especially important with sea glass studs as the adhesive contact area is very small.
- To brighten your sea glass, add a small drop of olive oil to a cloth and buff lightly, avoiding any contact with other materials including silver and adhesives.
Adjustable Rings
While you will be able to make your adjustable ring tighter and looser by opening and closing it, we recommend that you don't do this on a regular basis as over time the metal will become brittle from the strain and could eventually crack or even break.
We recommend that once you receive your adjustable ring, you size it to the finger you wish to wear it on rather than swapping it from finger to finger and resizing regularly.
